The four leaf clover is a shamrock and the luck of the Irish.

“In Search Of A Four Leaf Clover”

When we were young children; we had to find things to do with our time on hand, because there wasn’t a lot to do without spending money. My dad made us a swing from the big oak tree in our yard, and we had a lot of fun taking turns swing each other. As children you learn to find things to keep yourself preoccupied, so you could can stay out of trouble. We played a lot of silly games, but there was one that we played, that kept us all occupied. This game was call the luck of the Irish, which meant searching for four leaf clovers. I don’t remember exactly who told us about this game, but all I do know is that it was fun, and exciting; because who ever would find a four leaf clover, gets to make a wish.

We would spread ourselves down over the clovers on the ground  and vigorously search the thick patches of clover; looking and searching for the famous four leaf clover, as if it was gold or diamonds, just waiting to be discovered. No one tells you, that looking for a four leaf clover is like looking for a needle in a haystack. The reason for this is, there appears to be millions of  clovers, but 99% of the clovers are three leaf clovers,so finding a four leaf clover is a rare find. So, the search was on, sometimes we searched for hours, for that elusive four leaf clover, before we finally found one. We looked for the four leaf clover, so we could have the luck of the irish. Sometimes, we would luck out and find a four leaf clover hidden in the mix of the three leaf clover. It wasn’t an easy job, looking for four leave clover but it was always a  lot fun to look for the four leaf clover.

It was such a joy, if you were the one that found the four leaf clover, because you get to make a wish, and hope that it would come true. After we found the four leaf cover we would make a secret wish, with telling anyone what we wished for, and sometimes they really came true and sometimes they didn’t.It didn’t really matter that much because it was just so much fun searching for the infamous four leaf clover, I don’t guess we really care about the wish not coming true

Hi Benny…Your writing is so open and honest, like sitting by your side as you tell the story…

I used to fudge when we went looking for the rare four leaf clover…I would find a big three leaf clover and attach the fourth leaf with spit…What a cheat I was…no wonder my wishes never came true…Larry
